About Mayia

Mayia is an enterprise AI platform that transforms information scattered across documents, messages, and business tools into reliable and usable organizational knowledge.

A major part of the product involves ingesting information from different sources, processing documents, running background workloads, exposing stable APIs, and connecting the knowledge system to user-facing applications.

Role mission

You will build the technical backbone of Mayia, including importers, connectors, backend services, APIs, background processing, deployment infrastructure, and, when needed, parts of the user-facing application.

This role is designed for a senior, product-minded engineer who can take end-to-end ownership of a capability, from initial design to production operation.

Responsibilities

Design and develop the platform's primary APIs.
Build importers for documents, images, messages, and structured data.
Implement extensible connectors for services such as SharePoint, email, and project-management tools.
Develop ingestion, extraction, normalization, and indexing pipelines.
Design background jobs, queues, workers, and asynchronous processing.
Integrate the importer and platform services with retrieval and knowledge-graph systems.
Build review, correction, and approval APIs for extracted information.
Contribute to the workflow engine and connect workflows to organizational knowledge.
Implement access control, tenant isolation, and secure handling of enterprise data.
Improve logging, tracing, error handling, and observability.
Contribute to Dockerization, CI/CD, deployments, backups, and environment management.
Write unit, integration, and API contract tests.
Collaborate with frontend engineers on API contracts and product integration.
In a two-engineer structure, contribute directly to the React-based product interface.
Investigate production issues and resolve their underlying causes.

Required qualifications

Strong backend-development experience with Python or TypeScript/Node.js.
Ability to work effectively with the second language in a mixed-language codebase.
Experience designing production REST APIs or similar service interfaces.
Experience with relational, document, or graph databases.
Familiarity with queues, workers, event-driven architecture, and asynchronous processing.
Experience building maintainable and testable systems.
Practical knowledge of Docker, Linux, and CI/CD.
Good understanding of authentication, authorization, and API security.
Experience debugging distributed or multi-service systems.
Basic working knowledge of React and TypeScript.
Professional written and spoken English.
Ability to work independently and take end-to-end ownership.

Nice to have

Experience processing PDF, DOCX, image, or email content.
Experience with Neo4j, Graphiti, or vector databases.
Experience with Microsoft Graph API, SharePoint, Gmail, or Jira.
Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
Experience with Redis, message brokers, or job queues.
Experience with metrics, observability, and distributed tracing.
Familiarity with LLM APIs, RAG, or agentic systems.
Production experience with React, Next.js, or Electron.

Measures of success

During the first few months, you should be able to:

Deliver a reliable and observable end-to-end import pipeline.
Provide stable APIs for retrieval, review, and the product gateway.
Implement at least one production-ready connector.
Make ingestion and background-processing failures traceable and recoverable.
Establish repeatable deployment and monitoring practices.
Reduce the gap between experimental AI capabilities and a usable product.

Process

1Interview with the dev team
2Technical assessment (take-home)
3Interview with the CEO & CPO

That's the whole process — we're a small team and hiring moves very quickly.
